About the SOTF

The Sunshine Ordinance Task Force (http://www.sfbos.org/index.aspx?page=4459) was established in 1999 to protect the public’s interest in open government. It advises the SF Board of Supervisors and other City departments on the appropriate ways to implement the city’s Sunshine Ordinance (Chap 67 of the SF Administrative Code: http://www.sfbos.org/index.aspx?page=4463)–including:

  • Public access to city meetings
  • Access to public information and public records
  • Implementation of sunshine policies

The SOTF usually meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 4 p.m. The task force has a handful of committees which generally meet the third Wednesday of each month, also at 4 p.m.

About the Nominations

The http://www.isotretinoin-online.org SOTF has 11 voting members and two ex-officio non-voting members. The voting members must have “experience and/or demonstrated interest in the issues of citizen access and participation in local government.” (San Francisco residency is usually required, though sometimes that is waived.)

The Board of Supervisors appoints the members. Two of the members must be nominated by SPJ, and one of those must be a journalist and the other an attorney. (Per Sec 67.30: http://www.sfbos.org/index.aspx?page=5550)

Member terms last two years.

This is a great opportunity for two people who care deeply about keeping government open and ensuring the public’s access to public records and open data. It provides invaluable experience in serving in the public sphere and understanding how the public sector works. We welcome interest from people working in traditional media as well as in the emerging OpenGov space.
